REACH IS AN AFFORDABLE PROGRAM FOR STROKE SURVIVORS TO PUT THEIR LIVES BACK TOGETHER, TO REGAIN COMMUNICATION, COGNITIVE, AND PHYSICAL SKILLS. THE CLASSES ARE HIGHLY INTERACTIVE, AND OUR STUDENTS DEVELOP STRONG SOCIAL BONDS AND LASTING FRIENDSHIPS
The benefits of the REACH program are seen in every one of our students. The program is fun offering an array of activities including games, creating art, working on communication skills, thinking skills, memory activities and more. Our students come back again and again because they enjoy what we do and they realize that they are improving.
MOBILITY AND FITNESS SKILLS
A 50 minute session is taught by a licensed physical therapist. Focus of classes is to maintain and improve fitness, strength, balance and mobility. Group exercise, balance training, pain management, muscle retraining and gait training are. The group atmosphere allows for encouragement of peers to be given and received.
ADAPTIVE LIVING SKILLS
A 50 minute session is taught by a licensed occupational therapist. General exercise is taught w/ an emphasis on improving posture, flexibility, attention and function. Education on home safety, and supporting and improving independence are included. Group and individual activities include: painting, creative arts and crafts, potting plants, baking/cooking, playing games and puzzles. Seated modified bocce, Jenga, card games and puzzles are some of our favorites.
SPEECH, LANGUAGE AND COGNITIVE SKILLS
A 50 minute session is taught by a licensed speech pathologist. The focus of these classes are to improve socialization while addressing communication, language and cognitive abilities. Current events, newspaper review, structured therapy tasks and conversation support these goals. The student may take part in games and activities such as Scattegories, Taboo, Loaded Questions, Blokus, Racko and speech apps.
